Firmness prevailed on the money market on Friday as the rupee held overnight levels in terms of the dollar in the process of trading activity, dealers said.

INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: The rupee inched up by one paisa in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 138.22 and Rs 138.24 respectively, they said.

OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee was unchanged against the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 138.00 and Rs 138.50 respectively, they said. While, the rupee gained 25 paisas in relation to the euro for buying and selling at Rs 157.75 and Rs 159.25 respectively, they said.

In the final Asian trade, the Australian and New Zealand dollars held steady versus the greenback on Friday, as the Federal Reserve's more dovish stance and improved prospects for a US-Sino trade deal boosted investor risk appetite.

On Wednesday, the US central bank held interest rates steady as expected but discarded pledges of "further gradual increases" in interest rates, and said it would be "patient" before making any further moves.

The dollar index, a gauge of its strength versus six major peers was relatively unchanged at 95.55. The index is set to end the week in the red, after losing 0.6 percent of its value last week.

The dollar was available against the Indian rupee at Rs 71.125 and the US currency was trading at 6.728 in terms of the Chinese yuan.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee-dollar parity stayed unchanged amid sluggish trend in the local currency market on Friday.

According to currency dealers, the demand and supply situation of the greenback did not witness any change throughout the trading session as it firmly sustained its opening trend for buying and selling at Rs 138.10 and Rs 138.80, respectively.

Furthermore, the local currency continued to keep going up for the third consecutive day against the pound sterling. The pound's buying and selling rates further slipped from Thursday's closing of Rs 179.80 and Rs 181.00 to Rs 179.50 and Rs 180.70 respectively, they added.

RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar gained 10 paisa against the rupee at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Friday.

The dollar opened at Rs 138.20(buying) and Rs 138.30(selling) against last rate of Rs 138.10(buying) and Rs 138.20(selling). It closed at Rs 138.20(buying) and Rs 138.30(selling).

The buying and selling rates of one tola of gold was Rs Rs. 67,300 (selling) and Rs 67,000(buying) in the local Sarafa (gold) markets of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
